Sea Salt Roasted Lentils (092040001)
How they are grown…
Canada is the world’s leading producer and exporter of lentils with Saskatchewan producing 95% of Canada’s lentils.
Lentils are typically planted in early May. Common practice in Western Canada now is to seed the crop directly into the stubble of the previous crop. By doing that, we’re always maintaining a protective cover over the land to protect the top soil.
Lentil plants grow approximately 24 inches tall, with the seeds being produced in pods attached to the plant. There are between one to three lentils per pod. The lentils are then harvested in their dry form typically in mid-August. Saskatchewan’s climate provides optimal conditions for lentil crops, making it an important crop to grow to improve economic returns to producers.
How they are made…
Prior to arrival, our partners remove pods, rocks, dirt, weeds and any other materials from the harvesting to ensure we receive top graded ingredients into our 15,000 sq foot facility in Saskatoon.
From there we move into the roasting process, utilizing our custom-made roasters and equipment. We choose to dry roast (never fry!) our lentils — creating air pockets that result in an airy, bold crunch. Doing so not only maintains the nutritional integrity of each ingredient but creates the highest quality, most delicious product possible.
Next, we take our delicious seasoning formulations and coat the freshly roasted lentils. These are then packaged, boxed, and warehoused in-house for distribution – ready for our amazing customers!
We take pride in providing Canadian grown products that taste good and are good for you. Thank you for taking the time to trace the journey of your roasted lentils from our farms to your table.
